Thank you to everyone – pupils, staff, our families and OGs – for taking part in our World Book Day 2021 challenge to read two million words and raise money for a local refuge, Julian House.

As a community, we read 1.5 million words and raised £789 (inc Gift Aid). On the day, members of the School community also dressed up as their favourite book characters, re-created book covers and baked book-themed cakes. The money raised will be used to buy books and resources for young people who have had to leave behind their possessions when seeking a safe haven at short notice.

We have supported Julian House for the past few years with books earned from sales at our school book fairs. This year, we wanted to contribute more, and a reading challenge seemed a good way to do this so that our community could join in no matter where they were in the world.

Books are magical and powerful; they can give hope and they can heal; they can bring laughter and joy. We hope that the children and young people supported by Julian House enjoy choosing and reading their new books. We want to share the joy of books and reading and acknowledge the amazing work done by Julian House.
