Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE)
A holistic education is much more than the learning of subjects defined by an examination syllabus.
A fundamental objective of our PSHEE programme is to develop the character and confidence of every young person at Downside School, so that they may leave as a true global citizen. What our pupils learn through this programme aids their lifelong aspirations and goals and consolidates the core values of our School.
The programme aims to cover a large breadth of topics, promoting discussion and deep thinking about critical issues to every young person. We ensure that every perspective is respectfully considered, in a safe and encouraging environment. With greater understanding of challenges that occur in the present and the future, we believe our pupils become more capable of demonstrating true resilience.
The programme involves collaboration with external agencies and visiting speakers to ensure our pupils receive an increased awareness of the challenges that lie ahead. Topics vary greatly, from friendship to politics, addiction to wellbeing, bullying to climate. The scope is endless.
This is arguably an area where some of our greatest life-learning takes place and something in which we take great pride at Downside School.
