- Home to a community of Benedictine Monks since 1814 although the order was originally established in France in 1606.
- The Monks oversee one of England’s most distinguished Catholic schools which still aims to educate young people through a Christ-centred curriculum.
- The Abbey Church is one of only three designated Minor Basilicas in the UK and is dedicated to Saint Gregory the Great. Described by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner in his architectural guides as “the most splendid demonstration of the renaissance of Roman Catholicism in England.”
