Art, Design & Technology
Both these departments are popular among pupils and run a number of activity sessions outside of timetabled lessons, including Sunday afternoons. This enables pupils who do not pursue the subject formally at GCSE or A Level to still use the facilities.
Art at Downside School
Set in its own buildings, the Art Department is busy and buzzing. Freedom of creativity is the norm: 2-D or 3-D? Textiles or oils? Figurative or abstract? Landscape or portrait? Pupils are encouraged to explore as many styles and media as possible. With an Artist-in-Residence, and regular visits to exhibitions, galleries and museums, pupils are provided with lots of inspiration.
DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
In Design and Technology pupils combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design and make products and systems that meet human needs. They learn to use current technologies and consider the impact of future technological developments. They learn to think creatively and intervene to improve the quality of life, solving problems as individuals and members of a team.
