Why We Need You
DOWNSIDE HAS A LONGSTANDING TRADITION OF PHILANTHROPY, ROOTED IN ITS BENEDICTINE VALUES, SUPPORTING, AND HELPING ONE ANOTHER. IT IS WITH THANKS TO OUR ALUMNI, PARENTS AND FRIENDS THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO ENHANCE OUR FACILITIES AND PROVIDE ESSENTIAL TRANSOFRMATION BURSARY SUPPORT EACH YEAR.
As we look to the future, we must ensure talented pupils have access to a Downside education irrespective of their financial means, whilst maintaining the upkeep of our beautiful historic buildings. Equally important is looking after our community and existing families during extenuating circumstances and hardship. For this reason, we have three main funds which support our areas of greatest need.
In addition, each year, unrestricted income enables smaller projects within the School to be fulfilled, such as the recent Downside Tree Week in 2022, where over 1,000 UK-grown and sourced saplings were planted as part of a new hedgerow.
We are grateful to all who are able to support one or more of these projects and funds. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Jess Newman, Director of Development.
Why I Give
President of St Gregory’s Society, Jonny Grew (C77) and Vice-President, Rupert Orchard (R74) share why they support the School.
“My father James Grew (C48), often said, “education can never be taken away from you”. With the financial challenges and the complexity of today’s modern world it is important that the School is able to financially support the children of OGs and worthy pupils who would benefit from a Downside education but who cannot pay the current fees or need help to make it possible.” – Jonny Grew (C77)
“Downside has been such a force for good in my life over the last 50 years that it seems only right to give something back and help others to enjoy similar benefits.” – Rupert Orchard (R74)
