We were delighted to welcome 23 pupils and 4 members of staff from Colegio del Pilar, based in Mexico City, to Downside.
This week-long collaboration between our staff and pupils, and our Mexican visitors, was an enormous success, with pupils taking part in talks given by scientists and fruit growers, a farm visit and lessons focusing on the future of food. This culminated in presentations and workboards on the ‘Future of Food’, judged by Downside staff. Visiting pupils also enjoyed cricket and tennis masterclasses as well as a highly competitive football tournament, kayaking and paddleboarding and plenty of walking around our wonderful campus! Our Mexican friends had a fantastic time, committing to all that was on offer with boundless energy and enthusiasm.
The principal of Colegio del Pilar is Federico Gonzalez Unter (S04). Federico was thrilled to be back at Downside and thoroughly enjoyed his trip down memory lane, talking to members of staff who were here when he was a pupil, and even visiting his old room in Smythe. Downside is thrilled to have established this link with Federico’s school and we are really looking forward to strengthening the relationship between the two schools over the coming years.
