Upper Sixth Form Retreat

Downside School Upper Sixth Form Retreat

On Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October, the Upper Sixth Form had their annual retreat.

The retreat took place in the beautiful grounds of the Ammerdown Retreat centre and wider estate grounds. The retreat theme was about the ‘Virtue of Courage’. We again invited Father Toby Lees, a Dominican priest from London, back to inspire the pupils in the pursuit of this important virtue within their lives. With sharing his own life experiences, teachings of philosophy and ethics as well as the Catholic Church, Father Toby led an enriching retreat for the pupils involved.

Maria, from Isabella, reflects on her retreat day;

On Tuesday, the 4th of October, my year group had their retreat. It was a great spiritual experience in the environment of nature, which enabled us to relax and take a break from the intensity of school life. Throughout the whole day Father Toby gave us  fascinating talks on courage. His speeches were followed by conversations in small groups, which further unified our year. Father Toby was open for questions and discussions, kindly explaining his thoughts. The mass, delicious lunch and the walk were great additions that completed the whole day. I am very grateful for this opportunity – Father Toby broadened our horizons and gave us all great advice for the upcoming years. I know his words will stay with me for a long time.
