Ullathorne reunion in Spain – May 2026
Marking nearly half a century since they were at school together, a small group of Ullathorne alumni recently decided to renew their acquaintance with a reunion in Spain.
The gathering consisted of Tim Edwards, Peter Chodorowski, Edward Bisgood, Richard McCarthy (all U80) along with Paul Taylor and Guy Matthews (both U81). The weekend was the inspiration of Paul, and was made possible by the generous hospitality of Costa del Sol resident Richard.
Everybody flew in to Malaga from different locations, convening on Friday May 8 in Lothlorien, the spectacular Tolkien-themed (yes, that’s right) Marbella villa rented by Paul. Following a splendid meal at the nearby Nosso restaurant, the party got into full swing back at the villa. A Downside-themed quiz was won by former Head of House Tim.
The following day, the group defied biblical rain showers to explore the charming back streets of Marbella. An evening meal in the excellent Gallo restaurant was followed by another evening of festivities and shared memories. On Sunday, Richard hosted an outstanding barbecue at his late mother’s Fuengirola villa, prepared by his partner Nancy. The party finally broke up on Monday with everybody heading to the airport, having already committed to another Spanish extravaganza two years from now, hopefully featuring some fresh faces in addition to the core group.
Although it was the first time some of the group had met since the early 1980s, the Ullathorne spirit was easily rekindled and old bonds re-established. Laughter, good cheer and conviviality will be the trip’s abiding memory.
