On Wednesday 2nd October, Third Form pupils had their annual retreat day.
Pupils started with Morning prayer in the Old Chapel and listened to Fr Michael talk about and the School’s Benedictine values, linking them with the Holy Rule. Everyone was given a personal copy signed by Mr Hobbs and our Heads of School spoke about the importance of a strong community.
The first session was a guided Lectio Divina, focusing on the story of the paralysed man being carried by four men to Jesus. This is a great passage which allowed them to think about friendship. The second session was centred on Chapter 72. Pupils were able to open up their own rules to discover the treasure of community living and found the key words of family, patience, reverence, Christ, obedience and respect. The morning was completed with Midday Mass (on the feast of our Guardian Angel) in which pupils helped with reading, serving, offertory and singing.
The afternoon walk took the retreat to St Andrew’s Plague Church in Holcombe. Along the way, pupils gathered at reflection points to discover more of the Benedictine Values and passages of the Rule and Bible that linked them. At the end, pupils discovered the church (which has bats within it) and the interesting graveyard. Many thanks to the staff, Upper Sixth perfects and pupils for a great day centred on Christ and Community life.
