THE JOURNEY TO OXBRIDGE

We are delighted that 15% of our Sixth Form have prepared or are preparing for their Oxbridge applications. Subjects selected include PPE, Natural Sciences, Mathematics & Economics and Engineering.

Spanish Sixth Former Aram has applied for PPE at Oxford – a degree he finds particularly interesting as he is considering a career in diplomacy or international relations. He found writing his personal statement an interesting journey, having to consider – from all angles – why he wanted to study PPE more than anything else, and then convey his passion for that choice.

Aram joined Downside School in the Fourth Form, having previously studied at Escolania de Montserrat, Barcelona. He decided to stay on into the Sixth Form as he saw that the opportunities open to him for university options having been at Downside Sixth Form were considerable.

As well as his academic studies, Aram enjoys the extensive wider curriculum options available: ‘As a Sixth Former here at Downside I have been able to broaden my leadership skills for my House and for CCF, where I am a sergeant major. I am in three of the four school choirs. I am also part of the football team which helps me build my team working skills and enables me to get to know other footballers from across the year groups.’
