On the 7th of September, the Creative Collection event reunited people working in the different creative industries, including OGs and past parents, there were many areas represented – set designers, film-makers, MUAs, actors, painters, furniture designers, writers, etc. The event, organized by Matt Podesta (S86) and Dumle Kogbara (Ra84), alongside the Downside Development office, brought together a vibrant mix of creative minds.
As Matt Podesta put it, “A huge ‘Thank you’ to all who came to the first meeting of the Creative Collection, a splendid turnout from all and the weather made us proud. What did we learn? Well, apart from having such a mixed and varied attendance, it was also extremely fun and convivial, some networking was done, but more importantly, the general atmosphere was one of unity and a chance for us to share what working in a creative field is often like.”
This gathering transcended mere networking, it broke the solitude that frequently plagues creative professionals. Dumle Kogbara shared his thoughts, emphasising, “Much of creative work takes place in solitude and can be isolating, albeit necessary and chosen. So, there is a particular benefit and pleasure in being in the company of others who speak the same language in more senses than one. I personally found quiet inspiration and joy in communicating with some OGs involved in practically the same activities, with corresponding similar interests.”
After the success of the inaugural event, we are considering hosting the next one in the spring. If you would like to join us, please email us at development@downside.co.uk. We would love to grow this event and create a platform for creative professionals to connect, collaborate, mentor, and find inspiration among like-minded individuals.
