The Big Question
Arguing for atheists was Dr Martin Pickup of the University of Oxford against, for theism, Mr Graham Draper, a graduate of biosciences at the University of Bristol.
It was a lively and interactive debate, very much along the lines of the Abingdon Society style of debating, with plenty of time for questions from the floor. The students listened well to the arguments clearly outlined and were fascinated by the interaction between the debaters, chaired by Mr Walters. For those studying A Level Religious Studies this proved to be chance to be reminded of and examine more carefully some arguments, and for those with no faith it proved to be an engaging encounter with arguments on both sides. The debate style apparently ‘made it a lot more interesting’ and ‘quite fun’ and overall it was ‘pretty good’: high praise indeed.
