Tennis at Downside is popular sport which continues to develop and flourish. Downside Tennis has a structured vision to create a sustainable, inclusive and developmental environment for students to discover their full potential. Whilst inclusivity is fundamental to our school philosophy, we are driven to provide a performance structure for our pupils who show dedication and promise.

With over 15 competitive teams during the summer term, there is a great deal of opportunity for our students. We benefit from the use of seven on-site newly re-surfaced hard courts and six astro courts. Specialist coaching is available throughout the year for individuals looking to develop tactical, technical and physical elements of the game. Our dedicated coaching programme caters for girls and boys of all abilities, and we also make plenty of use of the indoor facilities at Writhlington Tennis Centre. Our pre-season camp offers another opportunity for our players to focus on specific training goals and is also an important step to creating a healthy team environment.

Competitive inter-school fixtures are organised for boys and girls, with regular opposition including Clifton College, King’s Bruton, Wells Cathedral School, Blundell’s and Monkton Combe.
