The health benefits of regular water-based physical activity are well known, and swimming is a popular activity at Downside. Swimming at Downside has seen significant growth in recent years, thanks in part to the historic setting of the Allan Baths Swimming Pool, built in 1926 but which underwent a significant refurbishment in 2018.

Various morning and afternoon extra-curricular activity sessions are available throughout the academic year and boys and girls in the Fifth Form and Sixth Form can choose the sport as a Games option in each of the Michaelmas, Lent and Summer Term; training three times a week and receiving excellent coaching.

Competitive Inter-School fixtures are organised for boys and girls in the Summer Term, with regular opposition including King’s Bruton and Wells Cathedral School.
