SSAFA Warrior Challenge – Lapland – Sophie Bex

Posted on: 05/11/2026

From Downside to the Arctic

We are incredibly proud of former pupil Sophie Bex (C19), who is taking on an extraordinary challenge this January in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Sophie, 25, from Putney, will trek an incredible 50km across the Arctic terrain of Lapland as part of SSAFA’s Warrior Challenge.

Having grown up in a military family, Sophie is now a SSAFA volunteer and Army Reservist, with ambitions to become a military dog handler.

During her time at Downside, Sophie was a school prefect, represented the school in the 1st XI hockey team and was an active member of the CCF, taking on the demanding 45-mile Ten Tors Challenge across Dartmoor.

It is wonderful to see Sophie continuing to demonstrate the determination, resilience and commitment that she showed during her time at Downside, now using those qualities to support others.

“I’m just really happy to be doing something to help members of the Armed Forces community in their time of need – and I couldn’t think of a more exciting way to do it than taking on the ice and snow of Lapland.” Sophie

We wish Sophie the very best of luck as she takes on the ice and snow of Lapland. We will be cheering you on!
