SPORTS ROUND UP FEBRUARY 2019

Posted on: 01/02/2019

In Rugby news, the 1st VII had their first Sevens tournament last Sunday at Millfield School and recorded excellent victories in two play-off games against Bryanston and Exeter Schools.

The results were just reward after an excellent first few weeks of training from a young and inexperienced Downside Sevens side. The tournament also gave us some excellent insight into our areas of improvement as we head towards the Rosslyn Park National Sevens at the end of March.

Last weekend also saw a competitive set of matches against King Edwards, Bath for our Hockey teams. The pick of the matches was the U14A team who saw a determined display demonstrating plenty of desire. Stand out performances came from two pupils in particular, one of whom scored an excellent strike in the second half that found the top corner of the goal – taking everyone (including the goalkeeper) by surprise.

On Tuesday, both the U14A and U14B teams were back in action. This time it was the U14B team’s time to shine. They took an impressive 2-0 victory, which could have been more by all accounts if it weren’t for a superb defensive effort by Monkton Combe. Congratulations to Tom who made his 2nd XI debut in goal this week. We look forward to seeing more of his heroics next week. This past week, our Netballers also did us proud against King’s School, Bruton and once again showed a great sense of team spirit. Well done to all teams going out in the less than favourable weather, and also to all of our supporters.
