SPORTS ROUND UP

Over the weekend, despite the atrocious weather, our sporting teams enjoyed a variety of great games, both home and away.

In their match against Wellington School, the Hockey U15B team overcame their opponents in a thrilling 3-1 win. In other Hockey news, Lower-Sixth Former Amelia McCleave has been selected for the U17 Girls Avon Junior Academy Centre side. They face Gloucestershire and Wiltshire on Sunday 17th March. We wish Amelia all the very best at this exciting tournament. And, on Thursday 14th March, the U14A side will compete in the Tier 2 West Finals. We look forward to hearing about their experience at yet again another fantastic tournament.

Netball U18A and U18Bs were successful against Leweston School, with 27-15 and 25-3 wins respectively. In looking to develop the girls further, many juniors played up into higher age groups on to give them more experience on the court. In general netball news, all seven teams are playing regular, competitive matches, and girls throughout the School have really developed their game over the past few weeks, gelling together and bringing the ball through court in a controlled, dynamic way. Third-Fomer Laila continues to develop and progress as part of the Somerset County Satellite Academy where she is a dominant Goal Keeper. She brings back good knowledge from her training sessions and inspires the other girls in defence.

The Football 1st XI travelled to Bryanston in what is usually a well-matched fixture. Having gone behind 2-0, the boys showed great character to come back to win the game 5-2. The result was even more impressive considering Downside only had ten players due to injuries and unavailability.
