Sport News at Downside

It’s been a jam-packed term thus far for the Downside rugby and hockey teams.
In the past week, Downside hosted Bryanston, running seven matches all at the same time. In horrendous conditions, the 1st XV dominated a strong Bryanston side (heavily populated with Bath Rugby Academy players) in every aspect of the game, and won 17-3. We also had the first round of the Nationals School Cup, with Downside putting a team out of Lower Sixth and Fifth Formers against specialised rugby college Weston. The structure and speed of Downside team was too much for the rugby college, and the school brought home a 37-12 victory.
The hockey season is well underway, with all Downside teams having experienced some competitive fixtures against a variety of schools. The 1st XI have started the term well, recording victories against Milton Abbey (3-0) and Monkton Combe (1-0), and have also hosted touring Chilean School, Craig House, in a high quality encounter.
After the exeat, regular fixtures against Kings Bruton, Queens College Taunton and Warminster await.
