Last Saturday’s Sixth Form Subject Fair was a great success with external visitors and our internal Fifth Form alike excited to see the range and quality of subjects on offer at Downside School, as well as to learn more about Sixth Form life.

Director of Studies, Daniel Gibbons, opened the Fair with an introduction to the Curriculum at Sixth Form, followed by teachers presenting the subjects on offer at A level, which included new options  for Computer Science and Drama & Theatre.

Sixth Former and Head of Charity, Georgia O’Keeffe, then spoke about the vast wider curriculum activities, clubs and societies on offer at the School including Inter-House Debating about modern-day issues to Community Groups – where pupils get the chance to give back to local primary schools, for example, or the local nursing home. She spoke about the spiritual well-being of the School, the independence offered at the School for Sixth Formers, and how well the School prepares pupils for university and life beyond the classroom.

After the talks, pupils and their families Chatted with current Sixth Formers and teachers about any and all of the A level subjects in greater detail, discovering for themselves the benefits of studying languages, science or economics, for example.

“Downside has taught me the true meaning of independence and dedication both in and out of my studies, and given me the confidence to trust my own decisions.” Georgia O’Keeffe, Current Sixth Former
