Andrew Hobbs was delighted to share the opening of the new Sixth Form Centre with pupils, staff, parents and the Downside Association on Friday 27th September.

He said, “Today marked an enormously exciting moment in the School’s development as we opened up the new Sixth Form Centre. It was wonderful to see the reaction of pupils and parents as they entered this fantastic new facility. This will hugely enrich the lives of our Sixth Form pupils, providing them with so many opportunities to grow and to develop independence both in their study and leisure time. As staff, we enjoy being able to engage with our Sixth Form pupils as young adults as they take on increasing responsibility for themselves and others. This unique space will help to strengthen their relationships with one another and develop their own community so that they in turn can continue to nurture and encourage our younger pupils.

“I want to thank everyone involved in bringing this project to fruition, particularly Matt (S86) and Claire Podesta, who are responsible for the wonderfully creative design and the beautiful furniture and have so generously gifted their time and expertise. As current parents and with Matt being an Old Gregorian, it is particularly fitting that this space has been carefully considered by those who know the School so well. We are extremely grateful also to the Abbot and Trustees of Downside Abbey General Trust for allowing us to develop this area and to the St. Gregory’s Society for their grant in support of this project.”
