On Tuesday 21st June 20 Science Technicians from 10 different local schools and two reps from school suppliers gathered at Downside for the summer meeting of the Mendip Science Technician Support Group.
Senior Science Technician, Merille Ryder set up the group in 2021 to offer support and networking opportunities to other technicians, particularly those new to the profession who were finding it difficult to access training post-Covid. A school science technician role is an unusual mix of highly specific technical knowledge and organising and clearing up after classes, consequently it’s often more productive for training to be peer-to-peer.
It was an enjoyable morning with many top tips shared about providing successful science practical lessons for our teachers.
