As sports staff, we believe in fostering holistic development, and this week’s Rugby and Hockey Leadership Residential offered a unique opportunity for 27 pupils to enhance their leadership skills, through becoming ‘comfortable in being uncomfortable’. As well as being part of our pre-season program for the Michaelmas term 2023.
The Leadership and Activity 3-Day Residential Program was designed to provide students with an immersive and enriching experience away from the rugby and hockey pitches. Over the course of three days, pupils were immersed in outdoor and adventurous activities, within a supportive environment. The key emphasis was on encouraging personal growth, teamwork, and the development of essential leadership qualities, developing the rugby and hockey cultures for next year.
Programme highlights:
Leadership Development: Through team-building exercises, and hands-on activities, pupils were able to develop important leadership skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and collaboration.
Outdoor Adventure Activities: The programme included a range of exciting outdoor adventure activities aimed at building resilience, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Activities included team building, coasteering, giant stand up paddleboarding, archery, bushcraft, kayaking and orienteering.
Personal Reflection and Growth: encouragement of self-reflection and personal growth throughout the programme. Students participated in reflective exercises, goal setting, and action planning to further their individual development, during the evening activities.
The residential aspect of the programme added a unique dimension to the experience, allowing students to form lasting friendships, build strong bonds with their peers, and develop valuable life skills such as independence, responsibility, and adaptability.
