Friday 11th November, the whole of Downside school gathered at the Old Gregorian War Memorial for a solemn Service of Remembrance.

On Friday 11th November, the whole school gathered at the Old Gregorian War Memorial for a solemn Service of Remembrance.

Wreaths were laid by a representative from the Old Gregorian Society, Mr Hobbs, the Head Girl and Boy and a Junior Under Officer. Downside CCF lead the parade and were accompanied by the school band.

Captain Oliver Simper read the names of the twenty-three Old Gregorian’s who had lost their lives, on land, between 1939-1942: Lt Michael Arnold, Private Robert Bahr, Captain Thomas Bostock, Lt Christopher Browne, Lt Richard Burke, Captain Anthony Colley, Capitan Martin Crowder, Lt Timothy Devas, Captain Thomas Eyston, Captain Arthur Farmer, Second Lt Angus Harvey, Lt John Hawkins, Dom Gervase Hobson Matthews, Lt Colonel John Rondel Le Seur, Captain Hugo Salmon, Officer Cadet Prince Leon Sapieha-Kodenski, Volunteer Adrian Squire, Lt Vincent Stewart, 2nd Lt Peter Thornely, Private Richard Turnbull, Wachtmeister Count Peter Aufklar-Ungsabteilung, Colonel Stephen Woulfe-Flanagan, Lt Count Wladyslaw Zoltowski.
