Red Wednesday was held on 23rd November – a day of prayer and solidarity for those who are being persecuted for their faith.
The event is led by Aid to the Church in Need, a charity who work with persecuted Christians across the world. Downside pupils and members of staff were encouraged to wear an item of red clothing or an accessory; by wearing red it demonstrates standing up for faith and freedom for those who are unable to, in their own countries.
Sixth Form pupils and staff listened to an online talk given by Bishop Jude Ayodeji Arogundade from Nigeria who talked about the horrific tragedy on 5th June 2022, when gunmen killed over 40 parishioners in St Francis Xavier Church (one of his parishes). A service was also held for those who are currently being persecuted or countries where faith and freedom don’t exist, led by the St Teresa Community.
