RED WEDNESDAY AT DOWNSIDE
It’s #RedWednesday on 28th November – making a stand for faith and freedom.
What is Red Wednesday?
This event is part of Aid to the Church in Need’s annual campaign, in collaboration with Christian Solidarity Worldwide, created to raise awareness for persecuted Christians and faith minorities who are suffering injustices, discrimination, violence, oppression, torture and death around the world.
What’s happening at Downside?
Downside School and Abbey are doing something peaceful and positive to highlight the suffering for many of our brothers and sisters who don’t have the freedom to express faith in their homes and daily lives.
We will be:
- hosting a pupil prayer liturgy on Tuesday 27th November in the Abbey
- like many other churches, cathedrals, abbeys and minsters, such as Westminster Abbey, Downside Abbey Church will be lit up in red for the entire Red Wednesday week – a sight to behold!
- eating red food
- inviting pupils and staff to wear red on 28th November
How can I get involved?
Join us in the above activities, but also why not make the 28th a special day in your homes: email, call or FaceTime your families to wear red, write in red, or go to a Mass for someone who cannot. In doing this you are standing in solidarity with those who suffer unjustly for their peacefully-held beliefs. Click here to find out more.
