Fernando Dameto Zaforteza (R96) visited Downside last week. History pupils had the opportunity to listen to someone who has devoted their professional life to studying the colonisation of the Americas. His job involves investigating, researching, and explaining the problems of the past at the CIS in Madrid where he is Associate Professor and Dean of Growth.
‘There’s no doubt that everyone will leave this talk far more than wiser on an Empire that, in this country, we often completely forget existed, but, more importantly, I hope those of you who have made the time to be here for the talk, see and hear that History is not confined to study in a classroom or for an exam, but that it can help you interpret the world and, perhaps, change it.’ Mr Joshua Huckle, Head of History
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the talk. There was a significant interest (of course) from some of the Spanish history pupils in the Fourth and Fifth Form, says Mr Huckle.
Thank you so much to Fernando for taking the time to visit his old School and sharing his knowledge with future Old Gregorians.
