This year’s Music for a Summer’s Evening was a fun and relaxing celebration of music and dance.

The range of performers included the School’s Concert Band, some amazing drumming skills from the Drum Line, soul and funk from the Downside Function Band and, new for this year, The Educators – a group consisting entirely of teachers with Head Mr Hobbs on drums for some of the numbers. One of the most moving performances of the evening was a live, solo performance of Yellow by Coldplay by one of the Third Form girls. Between the live music acts we were treated to two fast-paced, polished dance acts, followed by music videos made by pupils as part of their ‘3 Days’ activity programme.

Some pupils leaving that evening for the summer holidays were collected by their parents and some of their siblings, many of whom are OGs. Seeing whole families – and generations of Downsiders – together celebrating the end of the academic year, the start of the holidays and the marvellous Downside music made the event all the more poignant.
