In what has become an annual regional event, the practice MMI (multiple mini interview) morning for aspiring medics and dentists from schools in the region took place at Downside on Saturday 18th November.

We were delighted to welcome students from St Bede’s Catholic College, Millfield School, Prior Park College, Wells Cathedral School, Blandford School and V6 Sixth Form in Bristol to undergo a rigorous round of interviews with medical professionals from a range of disciplines.  The MMI format for interviews is rather like a speed-dating event, with students moving from one interview station to another every ten minutes over a period of almost two hours.  They are assessed on a range of topics, including ethics, empathy, data analysis, motivation, work experience, decision-making, teamwork, public health campaigns and NHS “hot” topics.

These events could not, of course, take place without the generosity and expertise of the team of interviewers who give up their time freely to conduct the session.  We are enormously grateful to our panel this year, Dr Patrick Magee, Dr Piers Jennings, Mrs Damaris Hobbs, Dr Vanessa Wilkins,   Professor Mary Jane Platt, Dr Justin Weir, Mr Oliver Simper, Mr Michael Randall and Mrs Hannah Alcántara.
