On Monday, the Downside Chamber Choir took their annual trip to London to sing a Carol Service in the beautiful surroundings of the Church of Our Most Holy Redeemer & St. Thomas More in Chelsea.
Joined by an enthusiastic congregation of Old Gregorians, family and friends, the roof was raised by hearty renditions of seasonal favourites such as Hark the Herald and Adeste Fideles. This was supplemented by an ambitious and varied repertoire of carols performed by the chamber choir, including a beautiful performance of Coxhead’s My Eyes for Beauty Pine, and a thrilling and buoyant performance of Allan’s Y Syng of a Mayden. It was particularly lovely to see former members of Schola Cantorum in attendance and catching up with current members of the ensemble after the service.
