The London Carol Service returned on Monday 9th December, filling the Church of Our Most Holy Redeemer, Chelsea, with festive joy and a bustling congregation of OGs, parents, pupils, and friends of Downside. This much-loved tradition once again proved to be a highlight of the Advent season.
The congregation was treated to a spectacular performance by Downside’s choirs, with particular praise for the soloists from O Holy Night, whose voices created an unforgettable moment in the service. We were also very pleased that Matt Walters (B18) was able to join us as the organist for the service, enhancing the musical splendour of the evening.
Readings were delivered by the President of St Gregory’s Society, Ken Beedle (R73); former Head Girl, Georgia Bolton (C20); current Head Boy, Ed; and the Head, Mr Andrew Hobbs, followed by Benediction led by Fr Michael Patey.
After the service, guests enjoyed mince pies and refreshments, providing a warm and welcoming close to the evening. This year’s service drew one of the largest and most enthusiastic congregations to date, showcasing the enduring connection within the Gregorian Family.
We extend our sincere thanks to Canon Paschal Ryan and his team at Our Most Holy Redeemer for their generous hospitality in hosting us once again.
The London Carol Service continues to unite the Downside community in faith, music, and fellowship, bringing people together to celebrate the season. From all of us at Downside, we wish you a joyful and peaceful Christmas and look forward to welcoming you in the New Year.
