This week, and until the Easter break, we are delighted to welcome England Roses Future and TeamBath netballer Jess Shaw to co-coach our First, Second, Fifth and Sixth Form girls at netball alongside Sports Graduate Ella Hadfield.

Jess was among the first group of players to be selected for the full-time Roses programme when it was launched in 2016. At that time, she was already starring for her country at youth level (Centre) and went on to win bronze at the Netball World U21 Youth Cup in 2017. She is in her second spell with Team Bath in the Vitality Netball Superleague having previously represented Loughborough Lightning and Yorkshire Jets. Jess plays either Centre or Wing Attack.

“It’s been a good session. The girls have lots of energy and it is great to see them back out there and enjoying netball.” – Jess on coaching the First and Second Forms

“I am really enjoying being back outside, the session has been great.” – Molly, Second Form, sports scholar

“It is nice to have a professional help us with what we need to correct.” – Boudicca, First Form

From Emily Chapman, Head of Girls’ Games / Head of Netball Development
‘It is so exciting having Jess join our coaching squad this term. Not only does she bring her own knowledge and experience but she is also a great role model to the girls too. Over the course of lockdown, Jess was seen on social media not only as a netballer but also engaging young girls in ways to get fit. Our girls have a great opportunity to learn from Jess and ask her about her experiences as a professional netballer and building her online fitness presence.’

Downside offer sports scholarships at 11+, 13+ and 16+. To find out more about our scholarship programme, please email our Admissions Team, or call them on +44 (0)1761 235103.
