On Thursday 17th January, a large group of family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of Jake Francis-Jones (B55), who died on 7th January 2019, aged 81.

Dom James Hood conducted the Requiem Mass in the Abbey Church with many members of Jake’s family taking part. The order of Service can be downloaded here and the Homily here.

The first lesson was read by Max Francis-Jones (B88) and Jake’s grandson, Humphrey Francis-Jones (B18), led the servers as Thurifer. Jamie Francis-Jones (B84) gave the eulogy which can be downloaded hereAfterwards everyone joined the family in the Weld Cafe to share their memories of Jake, a man whose popularity was clearly evident.

Jake was well known among the OG community and was tireless in his passion to establish the Gregorian Family as an alumni network second to none. He was the first person to be awarded with the Old Gregorian Medal in 2014 in recognition of  his outstanding contribution to the St Gregory’s Society and for establishing the ‘Bruised Reeds’, whereby support is given to OGs who have fallen on hard times.

Jake, you will be missed. Thank you for all you have done to support Downside and your fellow OGs over the years.

Requiescat In Pace.
