It's a Kind of Magic at Downside School

Last week we were treated to ‘It’s a Kind of Magic’ – two truly wonderful evenings of song, dance and the spoken word presented by Downside’s scholars.

The programme was compered by Jonah and Ed and included performances by Zara, Emily, Amelie, Alexa, Sophia, Jess and juggling by Olivia. The Tempest production was performed by a stellar cast who brought the whole theatre to life with their dramatic story-telling, including Cosima, Zara, Rosie, Ed, Alicia, Jana, Phoebe, Katharina, Luise, Seth, Finn, Ola, Louisa, Helene, Amilia, Martha, Clara, Julia, Jess, Jasper, Mariana, and Joe, with musical accompaniment from Rennie, Emily, Nathasza and Joszko.

The production was led behind the scenes by Bea, Julia, George, Freddie, Euan, Helene, Louisa, Isabelle, Isabella, Hugh, Boo, Ottilie and Fiona and was under the overall direction and supervision of Ms McGarry, supported by Mr Baker and Mrs Shaw. The evening was an opportunity for scholars to put on an event to showcase their interests and talents and was organised, rehearsed and run by students for students. They had to learn how to build sets, operate lights, organise and run rehearsals, source props and costumes and event manage a large number of people.
