On 4th April 2022 we were delighted to welcome Rebecca Ransome to Downside to spend time with some of our pupils and further their interest in Computer Science.

Rebecca is currently completing an apprenticeship as a software developer at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Having her visit us is part of our on-going commitment to inspire young women to take up Computer Science and to show them that young women can do well in computing careers.

Rebecca worked with our Second and Third Form pupils who are currently developing apps, and showed the code she was working on to our Sixth Form computer scientists (a handy revision of many topics). Rebecca also spoke with the girls in House during break times and was able to offer them real-world advice on the programs they had been building.

We hope to inspire many more girls into science, technology, engineering and mathematical disciplines and are grateful to Rebecca for the way she has inspired our girls to feel that they can do anything they put their minds to.
