On Wednesday 18th January, former Head Boy, Mateusz Kapustka (R20) returned to Downside to speak to this year’s Lower and Upper Sixth Form as part of the Sixth Form Lecture Series.
Mateusz is in his 3rd year at the University of Glasgow reading Economics. Alongside his studies, Mateusz spoke about his experience of corporate internships, involvement in the Glasgow University Orbit Satellite programme, the university motor racing programme and more importantly, how you do not need to be an engineer to be part of an engineering project!
One aspect that was particularly interesting was his views on the current challenging climate for graduate jobseekers and how our current Sixth Formers will have to strive to stand out from the crowd.
It was an extremely captivating presentation, and we thank Mateusz for sharing his wisdom with our current pupils.
Current Head Boy, Freddie, shares his thoughts on the presentation
‘It was brilliant to see our former Head Boy of 2019-2020 revisit us for this week’s lecture, where he spoke about life after Downside, and prepared us for new, modern challenges we will have to face on our leave. Matthew Kapustka proved to us just how much you can achieve during your time as a student, conveying what is possible when you have some grit and determination to make yourself stand out in a new world where stand-alone university degrees seemingly do not cut the mark. I think we can all say that we learnt a lot from his talk, and it has made us think about ways we can strive to improve ourselves outside of education; to make us more desirable assets to the workforce, and to make our lives more fulfilled in the process.’
