FEAST DAY OF ST GREGORY THE GREAT

We joined together virtually today to celebrate the Feast Day of St Gregory the Great (Pope Gregory I) in a whole school service.

St Gregory is the patron of the Downside monastery, the School and the alumni society, and is considered to be the ‘founder’ of medieval papacy. He was the patron saint of musicians, singers, students and teachers.

Dom James introduced the service, read the Gospel and led us in prayer. Abbot Nicholas spoke of St Gregory and reminded us that he was also the patron saint against fever and plagues – particularly poignant for us given the current global pandemic.

Readings and other prayers were also delivered by Head Boy, Nick Hobbs, and fellow Sixth Formers Judetta Whyte and Owain Daley. The service closed with a virtual hymn – Tell  Out My Soul – performed by members of the School community.
