On Friday 15th April, we welcomed back to Downside many Old Gregorians and members of the Wider Community for a day focused around careers and networking.
The day began with the second instalment of our themed Business Brunch, hosted in the Petre Library, which provided the perfect setting. This new style event series aims to bring together business professionals from all sectors to explore and discuss particular themes and hot topics. Just under 20 OGs and past parents explored the theme of ‘Sustainability’, with Rupert Carr (S80), Founder and Director of Birchall Properties, providing a captivating keynote introduction on his journey to developing Peak Gateway in the Peak District National Park for the last 30+ years!
In the afternoon, we were incredibly lucky to have many Old Gregorians and other professionals attend the Careers Fair. Fourth to Upper Sixth Form pupils met people from different industries who shared their insider knowledge, encompassing finance, woodworking, journalism, speechwriting, real estate, insurance, entrepreneurship, cuisine, and many more. Pupils engaged in sector-specific talks throughout the afternoon, which were not only educational but also inspirational. From learning about the intricacies of capital investments to the nuances of speechwriting, each session offered a unique opportunity for pupils to engage directly with industry professionals, posing questions and gaining invaluable wisdom firsthand.
A huge thank you to all who gave up their time to join us.
