As you may know, Downside School is going single-use plastic free from September. In addition, every House will have recycling and composting bins, and water stations will be placed around the campus for pupils to refill their own water bottles with.

The Abbey have already gone single-use plastic-free, and also swapped plastic-cling film for plant-based film in their Refectory.

The Downside Environmental Committee, which includes representatives from pupils, School staff, the Manquehue and the Abbey, is currently undertaking an environmental audit to review our food, paper and energy usage. This will form the basis for a pledge from the Abbey and School to become carbon-neutral organisations by 2050, which will be created in conjunction with advice from the School’s governing body.
