Monks sing Gregorian Chant on BBC Radio 3
17 Oct 2017
We were thrilled to hear Frs Leo, Anselm and Boniface sing to the nation, on BBC Radio 3, on Sunday 16th October.
If you didn’t have a chance to listen to the live broadcast, you can catch them again on the BBC iPlayer by clicking here. The monks begin at around 17’30”.
The programme, The Early Music Show, was presented by the internationally-acclaimed harpsichordist, Mahan Esfahani, and cornet player, Helen Roberts; it sat within a full-weekend of outside broadcasts for Radio 3 at the Wellcome Collection exploring the topic of ‘Music and Memory’. Fr Anselm spoke about how Gregorian chant evolved and how it is used at Downside. Fr Anselm was even caught signing autographs after the show!
The monks sing Gregorian chant several times each day in the Abbey Church. Click here to find the service times, everyone is welcome.
The monks will also appear on BBC Four television, on Tuesday 24th October at 9pm, and on BBC Radio 3 each night from Monday 23rd – Friday 27th October, at 10.45pm
