This year’s Christmas Carol Service was a service unlike any other. Pre-recorded (following Covid-safe guidelines) and streamed to families, Old Gregorians and friends, the Service was just as poignant, atmospheric and as enjoyable as ever.

Due to the online nature of the Service, we were able to share it with families and Old Gregorians around the world from Chile and Mexico to Hong Kong and Australia. Thanks to technology, we filmed many of the performances in front of green screens and then projected the singers and musicians into the Abbey Church which, at the time of recording, was not open to visitors.

Music was performed by pupils and staff including Sixth Form choristers of the Schola Cantorum, the Boys’ Chamber Choir, the Girls’ Chamber Choir, and the CCF Pipe & Drums Band, a virtual Parents’ Choir and an OG Choir.

The Service also included a welcome from the Head, Andrew Hobbs, the Gospel, prayers and blessings from Fr James, and readings from the Head Boy and Head Girl, and from Jonathan Grew ((C77) and President of the St Gregory’s Society). A truly moving service bringing us together whilst we are far apart.
