On Saturday 2nd March the sun shone over Downside School as we welcomed families for the first of our 2019 Open Days.

Families travelled from far and wide, as well as from the locality, to meet with current pupils, staff and our Head Master, as well as our fantastic Parents’ Association, and to see first-hand how special growing and learning at Downside is.

Visitors came from Farleigh, All Hallows, Hazlegrove, The Park Chilton Cantelo, Springmead Prep School and Kilmersdon Primary, amongst others. They were treated to an action-packed day which included tours, talks and fact-finding for types of places available at Downside: Day, Day Plus (which includes overnight provision for 2/3 days per week) and Full Boarding plus opportunities for Military families.

Tours around the School took in the wonderful Performing Arts Centre complete with its 400-seat theatre, the Sports Centre, which has some superb cricket facilities and a pool, the new chemistry labs and the ever-bustling and inspirational Art & Design department. The recitals in the Abbey Church were a particular highlight, and included repertoire from our wonderful Schola Cantorum and a jaw-dropping performance from one of our bagpipe players, accompanied by our Director of Music, Mr McNamara.

The Day was complemented a typically delicious Downside lunch provided by our award-winning caterers, Holroyd Howe.
