As part of our commitment to Service at Downside School, we strive to look to the needs of others before ourselves.

We know that education isn’t just about academic achievement – learning how to ‘give back’ is just as important. To that end, our Community Groups run every week allowing pupils to take part in a range of activities to support and enrich the curriculum and their education for life beyond Downside.

Some pupils choose to visits Fosse House Nursing Home every week to spend time with the residents; others offer language tuition to local schools, such as Spanish at local Kilmersdon Primary School; members of the Pipe Band visited Our Lady’s of Lourdes Primary School in Bristol to support their musical enrichment week; and our Soup Run to Bath still happens every Friday during term time.

The Downside Environmental Committee (comprising pupils, staff, the Manquehue and the Abbey) is looking at the impact of our energy and resource usage on our School grounds and the wider community, and the Environmental Group are undertaking tasks based on their findings.
