On 27 March 2023 our production of Chicago (Teen Edition), took place in the Fleischner Theatre.
A stella pupil-led cast saw outstanding performances from Ebanehita as Roxie, Leonora as Velma, Caspar as Billy, Bea as Mama, Ayrton as Amos, James as Fred/Mary, Lara as Liz, Hoi Ling as Annie/Harrison, Amanda as June/Kitty, Edith as Hunyak, Euan as Fogarty/Harry, Ciara as the Judge, Amelie as the Clerk, Alexa as the Reporter and Anna as a Juror. The cast were supported by a brilliant ensemble from Max, Justin, Luke, Ari, Ella, Paula, Philomene, Sofia and Sue Moody. Pupils put everything into making this a truly spectacular, and memorable performance.
Set in the jazz age of the roaring 20s, Chicago:Teen Edition tells the story of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart – two women searching for stardom whilst simultaneously being tried for murder. Both women are imprisoned in jail from where they plot their release and a path back to the spotlight. The audience were treated to everything from greed, scandal, betrayal, and a huge dollop of razzle dazzle!
The performance would not have been possible without the incredible support and dedication behind the scenes from Petra Schofield (Director), Kate Robey (Musical Director), Sarah Sigley (Choreographer & Wardrobe), Chris Baker (Sound & Lighting and a pupil-led crew (Xitong, Jonah, George and Dolu).
We would like to say a huge thank you to the band – Sue Lawson, Sam Crockett, Emma Powell (reeds); Mark Cox, Jonnie Bridges, Tim Rabbitt (trumpets); Richard Stubbings, Nick Kershaw (trombones); Danny White (tuba/bass); Steve Jobbins, Dyan C (drums & percussion); Christopher Sheldrake, Julian McNamara, George Bevan (keyboards); and Jamie Hughes (violin), who brought everything together in impeccable style.
