Hundreds of people visited Downside on Sunday 24th June to enjoy the Downside Carnival. Over 140 spectacular cars and motorcycles were on display. Guests enjoyed hot air balloon rides, live music, cricket and games. Children had great fun painting a car and we thank Ped from Pylle Motors for kindly supplying this.
We are very grateful to our judges Mike Penn, Mike Jackson, Keith Montgomery and Tim Mercer who had the very difficult decision in choosing the winners from such a superb gathering.
The Abbots Cup was awarded to Mike Taylor for his 1934 Jaguar SS which also won the Pre War category. Runner up in the Pre war category was Mark Nutbeen with his 1937 Austin 7 Ruby.
Winner of the Head Masters choice was Mark Thomson-Brown with his 1992 MGR V8.
Winner of the 1945 – 1967 category was Terry Seaborn with his 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage. Runner up was Jonathan Lace with his 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint.
Winner of the 1968-1984 was Anthony Whittock with his 1979 Ford Fiesta 1.1L and runner up was John Clay with his 1974 MG Midget.
Best in show for Motorbikes was Tim Brigstock with his 1975 Kawasaki. Runner up was Ben Turner with his 1969 Triumph Daytona 500.
Local band, The Original Barn Finds serenaded the crowds, BBC Radio Somerset and Bristol gave a live broadcast as part of their treasure hunt programme, Clueless and over 80 people took part in the guided tours of the Abbey and School.
