On Friday 14th March, the third Business Networking event took place at Downside, bringing together OGs, current and past parents, for a morning of insightful discussion centred on the theme ‘AI: Transforming Business and Innovation’.

The keynote address was provided by Matthew Watts (S00), Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Lendflow, and explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, driving efficiency, and creating new opportunities for professionals across all sectors.

Having built a distinguished career in AI and automation within embedded finance, Matthew shared his expertise on the transformative role of AI in business. He drew from his experiences at Facebook/Meta, Lalamove, Medtronic, AT&T, and JLL, offering attendees practical strategies for leveraging AI to enhance productivity and gain a competitive edge.

Reflecting on his journey, Matthew credited his time at Downside with instilling the resilience, strategic thinking, and adaptability that have been key to his success. Questions sparked throughout the morning, with attendees keen to explore how AI can shape their respective industries.

Following the keynote, guests had the opportunity to network over tea, coffee, and cake, exchanging insights and ideas inspired by the morning’s discussions. As a growing initiative within the Downside events programme, the Business Networking series continues to draw upon collaboration for professional growth, and knowledge-sharing among its attendees.

Looking ahead, the theme for the next Business Networking event is yet to be determined, and we are open to suggestions, so please do let us know if you have a theme you’d like covered, or indeed, if you’d like to provide the keynote introduction.

We are extremely grateful to Matthew Watts and all who attended for making this event a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming you to the next Business Networking event at Downside.
