On Saturday 18th September, the Downside Association welcomed current and past parents, OGs and their families to Downside for a Super Saturday of sport: hockey, rugby, football and badminton.

It was fantastic to see so many of the wider Downside community supporting our teams in the setting of the beautiful campus that we are lucky to call ‘our second home’.

The first fixture of the day was the OG football match against the School. The captain of the Old Gregorian Football Club, Jorge Baltazar (R15), remarked on the enjoyment all players had in returning to Downside for a competitive match. The end result was 7-1 to the OGFC.

The 1st XI hockey team played extremely well against Milton Abbey, with the match ending 4-0 to Downside. Meanwhile, the 1st XV and 2nd XV rugby teams set up for their matches against Bryanston, with the 1st XV able to steal a win in what was a close match. The Downside badminton team performed well against Sherborne, with players showing great enthusiasm and control.

Congratulations to all players – home sides and visitors – who took part in the day and thank you to our visiting schools for travelling to Downside to participate in the fixtures. Thank you to all the spectators who joined us from near and far for a truly ‘super’ day, to the Downside Association who provided welcome drinks, and to our caterers, Holroyd Howe, for the delicious match teas and BBQ.

The School’s next Super Saturday will be on Saturday 12th March 2022.
