St Teresa Community
The St Teresa Community comprises Sixth Form pupils who are ambassadors for Christian service within the School. The community meets every week to grow in mission of service, community, and discipleship through Lectio Divina. The community nourishes prayer and purpose through Lectio Divina, then the group discusses projects and initiatives to inspire Christian service for the whole School.
St Teresa of Calcutta is the patron of the community. She inspires the group to see Christ in all, but especially in those who are suffering. We see through the life that she lived, that Jesus Christ’s heart spoke to her to serve with a deep love and to give her all in what she did.
The ‘fruits’ of our time together flow from Lectio Divina. Of the many projects, the St Teresa Community has two that are worth a special mention. First, the weekly Bath Soup Run in conjunction with the Somerset charity HelpForHomeless. This enables pupils to meet, face to face, those who are struggling and are marginalised in society, they are able to see the face of Christ in those they meet, having recognised Jesus first when read in the scriptures. Second, since the pandemic, the community has launched a Spotify Podcast in which the pupils share their reflections of their experience as ambassadors for Christian service, which covers a wide range of themes and current affairs. This podcast has allowed them to own their personal faith with Christ, as they talk about it. Many members of the School community and around the world have benefited from the recordings. The St Teresa Community will continue to inspire the School to be a ‘School of the Lord’s service’, as quoted from St Benedict’s Rule. The Lord’s service is more than just fundraising or the giving of material needs, but meeting Christ. Hence we are sent forth to meet and listen to others where they are and share with them the Light of Christ.
