Pupils debate Brexit with Jacob Rees-Mogg
07 Nov 2017
Downside pupils enjoyed an opportunity to speak with Jacob Rees-Mogg, the high-profile Conservative MP for North East Somerset, on Friday.
Jacob spoke to the audience of senior pupils in the Gasquet Hall, outlining his beliefs and vision for the Brexit process before a Q&A session during which the pupils asked a series of intelligent and well-researched questions. In addition to talking openly about his faith, he also spoke passionately about the importance of freedom of speech in today’s society, encouraging the pupils to listen to a range of views as they progress through their education and career. The event was popular with both pupils and staff, with standing room only.
Pupils look forward to hearing speakers from other parties throughout this academic year and are very grateful to Jacob for coming to speak (and pose for numerous selfies!).
