On the path to a Rugby career
31 Mar 2017
Congratulations to Ollie Church, one of our most talented Rugby players, who has been offered an unconditional place to study Sports and Exercise Science at Hartpury College.
Hartpury College is well known for its success in nurturing top performers across a range of sports, and there is a close relationship with Gloucester Rugby…the premiership club use Hartpury’s specialist campus as their training base. The college have produced more than 100 men’s and women’s rugby internationals in the past decade, and allows elite athletes to combine study and sport.
Ollie has been working with Mike Baxter, our Head of Rugby Development, since attending a rugby camp at the age of 12. Mr Baxter said, “When Ollie became to old to attend the camp, he asked to help run the camp in order to learn how to coach. Following this, he became the first player on my Spark programme, a one-to-one rugby and athletic programme for 15-16 year olds“. During his time at Downside, Ollie has represented School in 1st XV Rugby, 1st VII Rugby sevens, 1st XI Hockey, and 1st XI Cricket, and during his Upper Sixth Form year has been Captain of the 1st XV and VII Rugby teams.
