CORONAVIRUS: EASTER TRAVEL UPDATE

10TH MARCH 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian

Due to the recent increased number of countries globally, including the UK, that are affected by the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we are asking for the support of all of those who attend or have children at Downside in minimising the risk of spread of COVID-19 to the school and its wider community.

We would therefore request that in line with guidance from Public Health England and the Boarding Schools’ Association that the following conditions are applied:

Pupils
Any pupil who may have travelled to, or been in contact with anyone from the following affected countries and regions will need to undertake a period of 14 days quarantine prior to the pupils return to school. This to be organised by parents and the details of quarantine arrangements are to be shared with the school.

  1. Returned from mainland China – Hubei Province
  2. Italy
  3. Iran
  4. Special care areas in South Korea: Daegu Cheongdo

Any pupils who have been to the following areas:

Mainland China (outside of Hubei province), Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand or South Korea (outside of the special care areas) and have the symptoms of COVID-19. Would need to self-isolate and not return to Downside School until they have been signed as medically fit before return.

COVID-19 symptoms are: fever, cough or shortness of breath.
Please be aware that this is an ever evolving picture and new countries and regions may be added to the list at any time in the foreseeable future.

Family Members/Guardians
Any family member/guardian who is due to attend the school and who may have travelled to, or been in contact with anyone from the following affected countries and regions should refrain from entering the School site.

  1. Returned from mainland China – Hubei Province
  2. Italy
  3. Iran
  4. Special care areas in South Korea: Daegu Cheongdo

We would also ask that should you have had any contact with anyone from the affected areas as above that you make the school aware as we would need to consider quarantine measures for your child on their return to the UK if you have had contact with your child over the Easter holidays.

Should you as a Parent or Guardian have visited any of the following areas within 14 days of your child returning to school (and had contact with your child) please notify the school in order for us to assess if quarantine is required for your child on their return to the UK.

Mainland China (outside of Hubei province), Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand or South Korea (outside of the special care areas).

Should you or any close family members have been diagnosed with the symptoms of COVID-19. Please notify the school as soon as possible prior to your child’s return.
